Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.

We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines.

"A vivacious nose full of honeysuckle, hay, nutmeg, yellow apple, ripe pears, greengages and hazelnut praline. Palate is similarly full with apple pie, a touch of nugatine, and tarragon, just enough acidity to balance, and a salted almond finish."
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

Drinking window: 2027 - 2035

What the critics say:

90-93/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"Originally there was pinot as well as chardonnay planted here, but all has been converted to white. 60% has been made in tank, 40% in a new 600 litre barrel. Pale lemon colour. Quite a reductive nose which dominates the oak. White fruit on the palate, rather attractive, then the reduction adds a tight smoky stony finish. There is enough fruit through the middle to fill out the palate. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: October 2023."

91-92/100Sarah Marsh MW, World of Fine Wine

"An interesting place for Chardonnay. There were only two producers of white Reversées, but Paul Pernot has just replaced his Pinot with Chardonnay. Fermented in new 600-liter François Frères with the balance, just under half, in stainless-steel tank. It has gravelly bite and tension. Punchy, savory character. Grippy. Broad on the palate, but not fruity. This is savory and maybe a touch oaky, but time will mellow. 2025–32"

OUR GROWERS

Domaine Clos de la Chapelle

An exciting new addition to the portfolio, Domaine de Clos de la Chapelle is a fascinating revival of an old Burgundy domaine based around the eponymous, historic Volnay 1er Cru Monopole Clos de la Chapelle. Even trailblazing chemist Louis Pasteur was a huge fan back in the 1800s, placing a regular order for several dozen bottles of Clos de la Chapelle for his personal enjoyment.
