Domaine Paul & Marie Jacqueson’s Rully Premier Cru ‘Clos La Renarde’ 2019 is a serious, beautifully structured Pinot Noir from a tiny walled vineyard in the heart of Rully, in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. The 0.32-hectare monopole was planted in 1988, with clay-limestone soils giving the wine both depth and freshness. The Jacqueson family hand-pick their grapes and give this cuvée an extended élevage in oak, building complexity while keeping the fruit at the centre.

The 2019 has real depth, with ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum, lifted by fresh floral notes, spice and a hint of earthy, smoky character. The palate is silky but concentrated, with finely judged tannins and a savoury, lingering finish. It has more weight and structure than a simple, fruit-driven Pinot, but retains the elegance that makes good Burgundy so appealing.

Try it with roast guinea fowl and wild mushrooms, duck breast with a cherry sauce, or a slow-cooked mushroom and lentil dish.

OUR GROWERS

Paul et Marie Jacqueson

Founded by Henri Jacqueson in 1947, this esteemed domaine has remained a family affair, with his son Paul taking the reins in 1972, followed by Paul’s daughter Marie in 2006, and more recently, his son Pierre.

Recognised as one of the finest in the Côte Chalonnaise, the domaine spans 13 hectares of ideally situated, often very old vines. They rigorously prune to limit yields to around 35 hl/ha and work the vineyards entirely by hand, employing minimal treatments. As one of the few producers in the village to hand-pick all their grapes, their winemaking is exceptionally skilled, with careful use of new oak (20% for whites and 25% for reds) resulting in beautifully crafted wines that are ripe, intense, and remarkably elegant.
