Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin and one to watch, rising star Xavier Horiot's reclamation of Domaine Launay-Horiot must be one of the most remarkable stories in the Côte d’Or. These are absolutely up there with the best red Burgundies being produced in Pommard and Chambertin.
Arguably Pommard's Grand Cru site, Xavier Horiot owns a mere 0.09 hectares in Rugiens-Bas and this wine is always one of the most sought-after in the portfolio. This wine always shows its breeding, with impressive nobility and incredible structure. This is certainly one of those Rugiens-Bas where Premier cru doesn't quite do it justice.
What the critics say:
"Bright mid purple. The bouquet is intense but subdued. This is really classy on the palate, a dynamic raspberry and dark cherry fruit, excellent energy, good acid balance, a crispness to balance the ripeness of the grapes, with an exceptionally long finish. Fully ripe. Tasted Nov 2024 ****"
