Domaine des Lambrays is one of the most historic in the entire region with written reference to the Clos des Lambrays in 1365. Since the takeover by LVMH in 2014, huge investment has poured in, culminating in the latest epoch for this winery on the completion of their new cuverie which was finished in 2020. This is a hugely important moment. The estate had many different terroirs even within the Clos des Lambrays itself, yet with massive vats, the fruit was picked and vinified together. Now, Clos des Lambrays is produced from no less than 11 plots – each picked at absolute optimal ripeness and vinified separately and the results are clear to see and taste.
The Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru 'Clos Sorbè' from Domaine des Lambrays is a unique and refined wine, with a delicate texture and aromatic notes of Morey briar and spice. Its distinct sense of place is a result of the vineyard's limited topsoil and mother rock, creating a long and satisfying finish.
Optimal drinking window: 2028 - 2060

What the critics say:
"The Clos Sorbè is just across the street from the Clos Baulet, but the difference is striking. The soil has more iron and produces a wine with deeper colour and yet more red fruit than black, with aromas of ripe cherry and lavender. The texture is more ethereal, but there is still a lovely freshness and depth of flavour. The grapes are from the domaine’s 1.15 hectares here; the wine should be approachable earlier than the Clos Baulet – try a bottle in five years."
"The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Sorbet 1er Cru contains 50% whole bunch, which is much more integrated on the nose. Beautiful brambly red fruit, crushed stone and hints of freshly-rolled tobacco come through with time. Very finessed and mineral-driven, the palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, gradually building to a poised and persistent finish. This may eventually surpass the 2022."
