The 2023 growing season at Taupenot Merme began with a mild winter, followed by moderate spring and summer temperatures, and avoided extreme heat spikes. Early budbreak in April, mid-blossom in June, and veraison by late July led to a harvest from September 11-25, following a cooler, rainy spell in late August. Despite a season marked by an overall water deficit, careful organic management and two green harvests in July produced a balanced crop.
"Subtle blue fruit with touches of black fruit and woody spices. Juicy, elegant, with a gentle finish."
Our note
The 2023 wines show moderate acidity with alcohol levels ranging from 12.3-13.6%, and phenolic ripeness reached across each cuvée. Reflecting a restrained, terroir-driven vintage, these wines lean towards elegance and subtle expression, rather than overt power.
Optimal drinking window: 2026 - 2034
What the critics say:
"Well-balanced and silky, yet firm on the palate, the Morey village from Taupenot-Merme has a plummy fruit aromas with hints of earth, smoke, and spice. The texture is substantial but not heavy. The grapes are from a half-hectare spread over three lieux-dits: Les Porroux in front of Bussières, Les Crais at the base of the slope, and En Seuvrey on the border of Gevrey. The grapes are destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in cask (20% new)."
"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Ripe cherry and raspberry. Creamy, ripe fruit with spice and floral character. Suave with a satin texture and fine, well-knit tannins."
