The 2023 vintage was a fine one in Mercurey with the main choices being selection of the best grapes in an abundant harvest and choosing the right date to pick in order to gain full ripeness whilst remaining fresh and not becoming over-ripe. The character of the wines isn’t too solar though – this is a superb year where nature did all the work and it was the winemaker’s job to select the best of the harvest.
"Deep notes of pomegranate and dark cherries, tart and inviting. Very textured, with the palate following that complex pomegranate and cherry theme. Whilst immediately appealing, the Vasées will benefit from a few years' cellaring which will undoubtedly accentuate the savoury notes."

What the critics say:
"Cask sample. Mid crimson. Peppery dark-red fruit. Lots of tension here, quite demanding at the moment but the fruit and the tannin–acid structure are balanced. As with the Vieilles Vignes, this has more intensity than richness. The VV is slightly better value but this may have more staying power."
"Black cherries, sweet spices and toasty oak zoom from the glass. This is demonstrative and emphatic with oodles of ripe summer berries. Medium in body with rounded tannins but peppy acidity, this will be ready to enjoy soon."
