Last year Neal Martin said “Duroché’s style of wine is very much in the mold of… Romain Taupenot in Morey-Saint-Denis" and that the latter is now “one of the most reliable and exciting estates” and we wholeheartedly concur.
Romain continues to oversee the inexorable climb of this fantastic domaine, now indisputably in the premier League, whilst retaining its value proposition. He crafts wines of structure, clear vineyard expression, and complexity from an exciting array of vineyards, and the wines are high class examples of their appellations.
Drinking window: 2024 - 2035
What the critics say:
"More crimson in colour, with a pretty red fruit, fresh strawberry with more precision than the rounder and softer Chambolle. Then a surprising wealth of fruit on the palate, with just the slightest vegetal touch at the finish, which the fruit should defeat. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted: November 2022."
"This is also relatively elegant and cool with its combination of wild red cherry, sauvage and discreet spice whiffs. The precise and almost lilting middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of tension while displaying fine length on the youthfully austere and balanced finale. This could arguably use a bit better depth, but more should develop with a few years of keeping."
