Domaine Yves Leccia, L'altru Biancu, 2018
- White Still
- Biancu Gentile
- Organic
Over the last 20 years Yves has crafted a range of thrilling single vineyard wines in the schist clay limestone terroirs of Patrimonio and the results are quite extraordinary. The team does not use any oak in the cellar, but these are serious wines, loaded with terroir-driven character and all fully certified organic.
This 2018 is made from 100% Biancu gentile grapes which are indigenous to this Corsican region. Thought to be extinct until very recently, these special grapes are now expertly grown and hand-harvested by the Yves Leccia estate. Warm climates and Mediterranean influence developed its refreshing citrus and saline flavour; a sip of the sea!
"Pale straw in colour. Nose is full of white peach, green apple and Mirabelle plum. There is a real mineral streak intertwined with the fruit which is all leaping from the glass. On the palate, the balance is spot on with great depth. Stone fruit is once again dominating, though yellow apple skin, Mirabelle plum and greengage are all coming into focus. Good acidity and yet there is a softness to the palate which is very well rounded. Hard to believe no oak used. Delicious."
James, Wine Guru
Lobster, crab, prawns, anything salty from the sea is delicious with this white and will be perfectly balanced with a sharply dressed salad on the side.
What the critics say:
"Summer-heady flowers and the scent of just-cut hay drying white-gold in the field before it's been tossed. White peach, bitter almond, dandelion tea and pine resin. A wine that pokes at you with teasing defiance. Like nothing you'd have tasted before. Long, limpid. A wine that tastes like a clear-as-glass rock pool on a glitteringly bright, white-light day. (TC)."
