The 2023 growing season at Taupenot Merme began with a mild winter, followed by moderate spring and summer temperatures, and avoided extreme heat spikes. Early budbreak in April, mid-blossom in June, and veraison by late July led to a harvest from September 11-25, following a cooler, rainy spell in late August. Despite a season marked by an overall water deficit, careful organic management and two green harvests in July produced a balanced crop.
"Blue and black cherry aromas with five spice and tarragon. Intense blackberry and loganberry flavors with a mineral, tannic core and a refined touch."
Our note
The 2023 wines show moderate acidity with alcohol levels ranging from 12.3-13.6%, and phenolic ripeness reached across each cuvée. Reflecting a restrained, terroir-driven vintage, these wines lean towards elegance and subtle expression, rather than overt power.
Optimal drinking window: 2028 - 2044
What the critics say:
"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Fresh red fruits on the nose and concentrated palate: red cherry, strawberry and redcurrant. There are plenty of abundant tannins, but these are balanced and not hard. Some sweetness to the fruit on the finish, with zest and length."
"The 2023 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a neat 'n tidy nose, not flamboyant, perhaps just a little conservative compared to the more expressive Pruliers. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, moderate weight and a structured finish. Fine, but this will need time."
