The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years.
"Certified organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 2005, this wine balances red currant and raspberry notes with cinnamon spice. One-third whole cluster and 40% new oak enhance its structure and tension. Aged for the long haul, this is a grand cru with significant aging potential."
Our note
Both red and white wines achieved impressive yields, the largest ever recorded for the estate, with terroir expression and balance shining through. For reds, comparisons to the 2017 vintage are apt, showcasing elegance and precision. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced.
The domaine features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine, and White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.

What the critics say:
"The 2023 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru is often one of the strongest wines from de Montille, and this is no different. The 60% whole cluster is beautifully integrated into a bouquet of finely poised dark berry fruit with a noticeable marine influence and superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, building white pepper and a hint of clove toward the persistent finish. As good as the 2022? Maybe better?"
"Two thirds whole bunch vinification. A vibrant mid purple. This is sensual on a large scale yet with well-defined structure, partly from the stems and partly where it comes from. A long suave and fine finish. Tasted Oct 2024 ****"
"Impressively deep in color for a Corton (reminding me of the DRC Corton's color), this pulls back in aromatics and flavors. It is quite a contrast to the expressiveness of the other Côte de Beaune wines. Peppercorns, red cherries, forest floor and a hint of umami appear on the palate. The tannins are grainy and a bit grudging. Along with the pulsing acidic tension, there is no shortage of structure. There is reassuring length on the finish, but this needs time to sort itself out. Give it at least four to five years."
