Château Montrose, La Dame De Montrose, 2015
Château Montrose, La Dame De Montrose, 2015
- Red Still
- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, La Dame de Montrose is one of 2015's finest second wines, up there with the likes of Carruades de Lafite and Forts de Latour, and is drinking magnificently.
"Stylistically this shares more in common with the Grand Vin than Tronquoy - the emphasis on Cabernet over Merlot - and there's that wonderful mineral character you find in Montrose. The last bottle I had opened up beautifully in the decanter, with notes of cassis, bilberry and damson rising to the fore, alongside cacao nibs, crushed rocks and eucalyptus. Cerebral winemaking at its best."
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru
The second wines of blue chip Bordeaux often fall into the shadow of wines like Batailley & Haut-Bages Liberal in terms of price over quality, yet La Dame de Montrose 2015 consistently bucks the trend and offers classified growth quality claret at a very worthy price.
What the critics say:
"A very refined red with berries, chocolate and walnuts. Full body and a round, juicy texture. Spicy and salty. Delicious already. Needs two or three years to come together. Second wine of Château Montrose."
"Dense floral and cassis nose with a minerally graphite base. Very good natural richness of fruit and great purity of expression. A very serious, very exciting second wine."
