The 2023 growing season at Taupenot Merme began with a mild winter, followed by moderate spring and summer temperatures, and avoided extreme heat spikes. Early budbreak in April, mid-blossom in June, and veraison by late July led to a harvest from September 11-25, following a cooler, rainy spell in late August. Despite a season marked by an overall water deficit, careful organic management and two green harvests in July produced a balanced crop.
"Elegant blue fruit perfume with sweet spice. Balanced with firm tannins and a long finish of bilberry."
Our note
The 2023 wines show moderate acidity with alcohol levels ranging from 12.3-13.6%, and phenolic ripeness reached across each cuvée. Reflecting a restrained, terroir-driven vintage, these wines lean towards elegance and subtle expression, rather than overt power.
Optimal drinking window: 2027 - 2040
What the critics say:
"Cask sample. Mid-pale ruby. Soft floral notes of peony and rose, with red cherry and strawberry on the nose. Red fruits on the palate, too, with just a touch of citrus adding freshness. Very fine tannins. Filigree."
"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, rose petals and hints of bergamot tea unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with a sorbet-fresh opening, impressive delineation and transparency, a keen thread of acidity and a cohesive finish. Very fine."
