Castello di Bolgheri Superiore, 2011
- Red Still
- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
The winery Castello di Bolgheri is the historical nucleus of the wine-growing around Bolgheri. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Viale di San Guido, which runs dead straight, is almost five kilometres long and is decorated on both sides with around 2,000 cypress trees.
Today, the vineyards are spread around the medieval village on a total area of 1,220 hectares, of which 1,050 hectares are used for the production of Bolgheri DOC. A small, but fine group of winegrowers cavort in the cultivation area, which provides for a moderate production.
Drinking window: 2015 - 2027
What the critics say:
"A red with refined tannins and a delicate mouthfeel. Medium body with fine tannins and a fresh finish. A little tannic and chewy now, but beautiful. Better in 2015."
"The 2011 Bolgheri Superiore (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc) shows a surprising level of brightness and inner energy despite the heat of the vintage. In fact, this wine was a good surprise on many levels. The bouquet is intact with a solid base of dark fruit and sideline embellishments of spice, tobacco and leather all presented in good measure. The richness of the wine builds toward a rewarding finish."
