This female star-studded cast of winemakers is an admirable family-run operation that dates back to 1989 when life force of the estate, Patrizia, decided she wanted to make Brunello. What was once a deteriorating property is now a winery buzzing with life and passion. Beyond the hectares of land freckled with olive groves are Sangiovese vines dedicated to producing Brunello di Montalcino.
The vineyards can be found in the southeast at a high altitude with soil composed of volcanic rock and compacted clay (or Galestro). They are harvested by hand and then fermented with indigenous yeasts.
Optimal drinking window: 2027 - 2036

What the critics say:
"Aromas of forest floor mingle with dark exotic spice, Mediterranean brush and blue flower on the fragrant 2020 Brunello Ofelio. Aged for 40 months in 15 Hl Slavonian oak casks, it’s enveloping and savory, featuring layers of ripe red cherry, zesty orange, tobacco, mocha and licorice. Firm, velvety tannins provide structure and finesse. Drink 2030–2036."
"A more saturating wine, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Ofelio is a jeweled ruby/red color and reveals a fantastic nose with a very different personality, offering more red-fruited notes as well as aromas of kirsch, pressed flowers, toasted rosemary, polished leather, and smoky earth. It's very well-balanced, fresh, and concentrated, with ripe tannins that float into the fabric of the wine, followed by a harmonious and long finish. Drink this beautiful Brunello over the next 15 years. A wonderful vintage of this wine.
