About the Wines

Wiston Estate, Brut, NV

Multi-award winning West Sussex fizz – bright, good crunchy acidity, strict lines, classic English tailoring – Goring family since 1743/ but showing how the French no longer have it all their own way in the style stakes.
Like herringbone in a glass – drink wearing a light-weight green tweed suit.

Donnachiara, Greco di Tufo DOCG, 2022

From Campania; elegant, crisp, unoaked white, Amalfi coast style, effortless dolce vita chic.
Drink wearing... crisp but relatively unstructured linen on the beach.

JCP Maltus, Le Rêve Rosé Côtes de Provence, 2022 (magnum)

Now to the riviera (sort of) – the hills of Provence, Flassanssur-Issole, very boutique production (only a few thousand bottles), made by Jonathan Maltus OBE from Bordeaux for his artist wife – who only drinks rosé.  This competes with all the overpriced high heels on the beach rosé brands, salmon pink, “Maltus builds on his inaugural 2021 release of Le Rêve with an even more confident and layered wine in 2022.” Matthew Jukes
Drink wearing... a silk beach robe and sparkly heels.

Les Labourons, Jane Eyre, 2020

An Aussie in Burgundy – this shows how far Beaujolais has come from the Nouveau days.  Former Melbourne hairdresser Jane is now one of the most impressive rising stars in Burgundy and this comes from Fleurie and its most famous cru.  It shows how Gamay can be serious without losing its charm – this is dressed up Beaujolais.
Drink wearing... beautifully fitted jeans, and unlined cord or moleskin jacket, with or without waistcoat according to style.  Knotted neckerchief essential.

PerSe, Inseparable, 2018

Malbec like you’ve never tasted before.  High altitude from the highest vineyards in Gualtallary, Mendoza, with lots of limestone.  Incredibly refined and sophisticated it will surprise those who normally find Malbec too structured, heavy and overbearing.
Drink wearing... A silk/linen weave morning suit?

Tenuta San Leonardo, C F, 2020

First ever vintage of 100% Cabernet Franc from legendary San Leonardo in Trentino (who celebrated the 300th anniversary last month).  This wine was created especially for us for a single vineyard site of old vines with a great, hidden story, in a limited run of four barrels only – a great example of one of various bespoke wine projects.  It shows all the finesse and clean lines that Cabernet Franc is renowned for.  Marchese Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga is also one of the most elegantly dressed and mannered men in wine.
Drink wearing... a bespoke cashmere/wool blend pin stripe (more English cut than Italian though).
