…one of the great wines of Italy… Sassicaia and San Leonardo seem like brothers separated in childhood.
Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 2014

The wines of Tenuta San Leonardo have more in common with Bordeaux than Bolgheri, known for their balance, purity, and elegance. As renowned Italian critic Nicolas Belfrage puts it, they "can have an elegance-cum-depth capable of taking on the best clarets of the world." Owner Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga was one of the first professionally trained aristocrat-oenologists in Italy. In the 1960s, he spent time at Tenuta San Guido—home of Sassicaia—and later brought in the same legendary consultant, Giacomo Tachis, to help shape the estate’s Bordeaux-style wines. San Leonardo’s flagship Bordeaux blend has been awarded ‘Tre Bicchieri’ from Gambero Rosso an incredible thirteen consecutive times and was recognised as one of the ‘Fifty Wines That Changed Italy’.

"One of my personal favourite Italian wines, unquestionably the top winery in the region and renowned as one of the most consistent – stylistically and qualitatively – in the whole of Italy, YET its wines remain extremely well-priced by comparison to more widely publicised names."
Tom Harrow, Honest Grapes Wine Director
