Bremerton, established in Langhorne Creek in 1985, has become synonymous with producing some of Australia's finest wine grapes. Founded by Craig and Mignonne Willson, Bremerton is now a true family affair, with their daughters, Winemaker Rebecca Willson and Marketing Manager Lucy Willson, joining the team.
Focused on crafting high-quality and individualistic wines, the Willson Sisters have propelled Bremerton to prominence in the competitive wine market. In fact, Rebecca's inaugural label, the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon, won a prestigious trophy and was ranked the third-best Cabernet in Australia by Winestate magazine.
Under Rebecca's guidance, Bremerton has emerged as one of the most renowned brands from Langhorne Creek in South Australia. By meticulously sourcing the finest fruit from their own vineyards and select growers in Langhorne Creek, Rebecca ensures the production of traditional, full-bodied, and flavour-rich wines that exhibit a consistent style while showcasing the true characteristics of each grape variety.
Located on the fertile soil of the Bremer River flood plain, Langhorne Creek offers a unique terroir. This region benefits from cool evening breezes originating from Lake Alexandrina, creating a microclimate characterized by mild to warm summer days and cool evenings. These ideal conditions allow the grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with intense and sought-after cool climate flavours.
The Wine
Bremerton Winery has made substantial investments in its oak program, utilizing premium French and American oak barrels to impart subtle and complementary influences on their wines. Traditional open-top fermenters made of stainless steel and a purpose-built barrel cellar for maturation further enhance their winemaking process. The winery also boasts state-of-the-art laboratory and tasting facilities, underscoring their commitment to quality and innovation.
At Bremerton Wines, premium wines are the result of premium grapes. With 290 acres planted in Langhorne Creek, the estate carefully selects the best fruit each year, while the remaining grapes are sold to other wineries.
The primary grape varieties grown include Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, complemented by smaller plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. By employing best quality practices, Bremerton Wines ensures that their vineyards consistently yield grapes of the highest quality, ultimately reflected in their exceptional wines.
