Benoit Girardin is an exciting new talent to add to the Honest Grapes roster, who is already making waves in France, and we are thrilled to introduce into the UK: The Girardin family claim thirteen generations of winemakers and Yves Girardin, like his siblings was given 3ha of vines which he subsequently grew to 21ha, purchasing the family property Chateau de de la Charriere in Santenay 2003.

Please note that these wines are offered En Primeur, with an estimated delivery late 2024/early 2025.

The parcel of 42 bottles includes:

  • 6x Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"From 2 parcels, amounting to 1ha in total. A full nose of russet apples and yellow plum, lifted by notes of cinnamon-dusted galia melon, brioche, and heather honey. The attack is rounded, intense but not aggressive, with grapefruit, and nutty freshness, and a mid-palate oiliness and fleshy orchard fruit sweetness to counter the brisk acidity. This is nicely controlled, sophisticated and long, playful with a saline bite and autolytic bitterness on the finish that ensures equilibrium."

  • 6x Savigny-Les-Beaune 'Vieilles Vignes' blanc, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"0.6ha of forty-year-old vines. Aromas of lemon sherbet, salted limes, pear skin and traces of meadow flowers lead on to a crunchy, salty attack, which is focussed and lean, but waxed pears and citrus oils on the mid-palate give a slick mouthfeel to balance the acids and salinity.  Racy, pure and zesty, this crackles with energy."

  • 6x Santenay 'Les Champs Claude', Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"0.6ha, of limestone-rich soils on the northern border with Chassagne Montrachet, touching the prestigious ‘Morgeot’ 1er Cru. Replanted ten years ago with 50% Chardonnay, the vineyard was previously all Pinot Noir. An effusive nose of sweet meadow grass and cereal notes, with apple blossom, pear syrup and a touch of fresh ginger.  The palate shows an attractive balance of lemony acidity, crunchy green apple and sweeter notes of stem ginger and cinnamon.  Hugely appealing."

  • 6x Bourgogne Chardonnay, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022

  • 6x Santenay Rouge, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"From 1 ha of vines. At the beginning of my wine career I came across a 1999 village Santenay (from Lequin-Colin) and encouraged everyone to buy as much as they could, whether as a party wine if they normally bought higher level Burgundies, or as a great opener if they were starting to exploring the region.  Nearly a quarter of a century later I’ve found another that fits the bill! The nose offers bright red cherries, strawberry compote, baking spices, cacao nibs, violets, and touch of fresh cut pine.  The palate is sappy, silky, rounded and supple with red plums and blood orange, cedary, spicy textured tannins, and a lightly salted anise finish. Pretty and notably high-toned for Santenay."

  • 6x Santenay Premier Cru 'La Maladière' Vieilles Vignes Rouge, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"More limestone soils give elegance and finesse to this wine which has a lightly smoky nose, full of raspberries, cocoa, and dark earth. The palate offers spicy red plums and cherries, bound by linear, herbal tea tannins, and a refreshing phenolic bitterness on the finish. Sinuous and sapid this should develop well over the next five+ years."

  • 6x Santenay Premier Cru 'Clos Rousseau' Rouge, Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022
"1ha bordering Maranges of ferrous clay soils, giving wines with more power and structure. An open nose, quite rich and velvety, creamy damsons alongside red berry fruit and deeper spice notes and dried flowers. Attack is full of earthy red plums and just ripe hedgerow strawberries with a salty, herbaceous edge to the tannins and bright acidity.  Controlled and precise with good focus but a pleasing gentility and generosity."
