La Boudriotte is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's red-soil premiers crus, more often planted to Pinot Noir, which makes Fontaine-Gagnard's white version something of a quiet insider secret.

Fontaine-Gagnard is one of Chassagne’s great traditionalists, producing some of the appellation’s most complete and age-worthy wines. Farming is resolutely old-school rather than dogmatic, with a focus on balance, density and longevity over fashion. In 2024, that restraint mattered.

The vintage was hard work. High mildew pressure, early harvest beginning on 22 August, and naturally low yields around 35 hl/ha for whites. A hot August pushed ripeness quickly, but September brought dilution and freshness back into play, finishing around pH 3.3–3.4. The result is a vintage of crunchy acidity, dense fruit and classical proportions. The La Boudriotte has the weight and texture that comes from iron-rich limestone soils, without ever losing the linear precision that makes premier cru Burgundy worth the wait.

Give it two or three years in the cellar and it will start to give generously; drink with confidence from 2028 until around 2038.

"One of the most finessed wines in the cellar, this is like delicate lace covering the palate with all of its detailed precision. Charismatic scents of linden, white peach, Mirabelle tart, wet stones and straw rise from the glass and drift onto the palate. Racy acidity blends with mid-weight succulence and carries the graciously complex flavors into a long finish. This is the largest Premier Cru holding of the domaine spread across three parcels that climb up the slope and measure just under a hectare."

Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard was created when Richard Fontaine married Laurence Gagnard, daughter of the celebrated Jacques Gagnard-Delagrange, and took on a portion of that legendary domaine's holdings. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, the estate covers around 11 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards.

Today, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard is in the capable hands of Céline Fontaine, who carries forward the family's winemaking tradition.
