Maison Bichot was established in Beaune in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, grandfather of the first of a line of Albert Bichots. The current managing director is Alberic Bichot (born 1964) who has revitalised the business which is now based around a series of domaines including: Long-Depaquit in Chablis, which boasts the exceptional Moutonne Grand Cru as its top site amongst a plethora of grand and 1er Crus; Clos Frantin in Nuits Saint Georges, the largest owner of Vosne-Romanée ‘Les Malconsorts’, as well as owing plots in Grands Échezeaux, Richebourg and Chambertin Grand Crus; and du Pavillon in Meursault, which includes Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru in its holdings.

Perennially the biggest buyer of Hospice de Beaune wines, Domaines Bichot is typically the successful bidder of the Piece de Presidents (the vaunted charity barrel).

Albert Bichot is a true advocate for sustainable viticulture, and as of the 2018 vintage, all wines from the Clos Frantin and Pavillon vineyards are fully certified organic. This commitment to environmentally friendly practices further enhances the appeal of their wines.

The Wine

With an extensive portfolio, there is a wine to suit all tastes and budgets from Bichot, each showing the precision, typicity, and generosity of fruit expected of their level. Over the last few years, we have seen the maison wines ascend to the same level of quality as those of its individual domaines (so much so that the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru 'Les Amoureuses' is fast becoming the most highly regarded cuvée in the whole range).

Renowned wine critic Neal Martin comments that Albert Bichot can make "really quite delicious, complex wines that often surprise people in blind tastings when not swayed by the label."
