“The Burgundy 2022 vintage defies all expectations. At best, it presents life-affirming, vivacious wines that leave you grinning like a Cheshire cat… I cannot remember a Burgundy vintage that elicited so much joy from barrel… I advise readers to fill their boots”.
Neal Martin, Vinous
“2022 is an amazingly consistent vintage. I tasted almost no poor wines. Everything was good to very good, with occasional touches of greatness… Burgundy is making great wine these days and 2022 is an extremely fine vintage.”
Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“I believe that the 2022s belong in any serious Burgundy collector’s cellar…. there were terrific wines produced everywhere.”
Allen Meadows, Burghound
“The whites are elegant, eye-catching wines that have instant appeal. Richly floral and fruity, but not a whit heavy…”
(On reds) “The energy level is lively for a ripe season. They glide, they dance, they pirouette. The big wines are vigorous and vital but imbued with much charm.”
Sarah Marsh MW, World of Fine Wine

“The Harrow Edit”
Next are some of my personal highlights from the vintage leading off with the ludicrously good value Long Depaquit Bougros. These are based on wines I try to take every year – De Montille Greves, Delaunay Crots, Pousse d’Or 60 Ouvrées, Tardy Bas de Combe, Philippe Colin Chenevottes and one of the Chambolles from Sigaut (touted by Neal Martin as “the next big thing”). This year will definitely include Clos de La Chapelle, (Dominic Lafon/Pierre Meurgy’s excellent domaine - probably my standout new discovery), which represents exceptional value for the quality they offer. Another longstanding favourite is Domaine du Clos Frantin’s Vosne Romanée, which punches well above village level with fruit from two impressive lieu dits: Maizeres, adjacent to Echezeaux Grand Cru, and Les Damaudes, the extension of 1er Cru Malconsorts, which neighbours DRC’s La Tâche.
I put in some scores too where available although I’d have selected these whatever the critics said! I’m expecting to take cases of most of these (depending on what’s left at the end of the campaign).
